Maison Delisle

Crystal Chandelier

France, circa 1960

DELISL 01

Description

Crystal, metal

Height: 44" - Diameter: 39"

Each arm of this extraordinary chandelier is attached to the canopy with a string of crystals and festooned along its length with many more. The work's canopy, in turn, is itself a mirrored, albeit attenuated, image of these arms, an arrangement of thin parabolas with a single crystal attached and dangling from the end of each.

Maison Delisle is a lighting fixture manufacturer founded in 1895 by Henry Delisle. Still thriving today, the company is managed by the fifth generation of the Delisle family, Jean-Michel Delisle and his son Jean Delisle. Delisle continues to create stunning light fixtures, often collaborating with renowned designers such as Jean-Michel Wilmotte, Christian Liaigre, and Elliot Barnes. A prestigious manufacturer that combines exceptional craftsmanship and the finest French luxury savoir-faire, Delisle has contributed to the restoration of historic places such as La Comédie Française, l’Académie Française, and the Château de Versailles.

The Delisle archives contain a watercolor and a photograph of very similar model referenced as #12763; A related and smaller chandelier featured in an advertisement Delisle in Plaisir de France, March 1962, page LXX.
