A tribute to the ancient Chinese philosopher Lao Tseu, this patinated steel sculpture is a smaller example of a large scale, public commission exhibited in the Val de Marne in 1984. Like the body of di Teana’s work the piece explores the intersecting roles of architecture and sculpture, with a focus on the power of negative space.
The following variations of the Hommage à Lao Tseu type were exhibited publicly:
1984: Hommage a Lao Tseu, mayorlty, Sucy en Brie, Val de Marne, France. Corten steel, H: 157.5" W: 78.75". Acquired by the municipality.
2008: Hommage a Lao Tseu, Teana, Italy. Corten steel.
