Mahogany, sycamore interior, bronze sabots, gilt-bronze ornaments.

This impressive four-door mahogany sideboard by Raphael is an example of how the Art Deco tradition was effectively carried on (and in some cases improved upon) through the middle of the century and beyond. The piece features six beautifully splayed legs (terminating in bronze sabots), recessed sides, and a sycamore interior—but its most impressive detail of all might be its gilt-bronze escutcheons, which were sculpted by Georges Lévy-Mazaud (1920-1997), and depict an angelic orchestra.
