Seguso, the finest and oldest Italian glassmaking house based in Murano near Venice, has been synonymous with impeccable craftsmanship since the 14th century. This Seguso lantern, dating from the end of the Art Nouveau period, is known as the Venetian cage and is composed of a billowing, hand-blown Murano glass shade, accented by a cage of delicately sinuous metal which descends from the ceiling. Crafted from delicate opalescent blown glass, it is one of the company's most iconic and timeless creations. These light fixtures formerly adorned the luxuriously decorated À la Marquise de Sévigné tea and chocolate shop in the resort town of La Bourboule from 1913.
